The first grand slam event of the year is almost here and no prizes for guessing who's favourite to win the Australian Open title in 2019 for an incredible seventh time. It's apparent and obvious!

Novak Djokovic has announced he will play the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open that will be held in in Doha from 31st December 2018 to 5th January 2019 in preparation for the Australian Open.

The Serbian player was thwarted with right elbow problems last year and was ousted from the tournament in straight sets by 21-year old South Korean Hyeon Chung.

After going under the knife Djokovic returned to action at the Indian Wells Masters, by the time the grass court season came round he was getting to grips with his fitness winning his fourth Wimbledon title and 13th overall Grand Slam title.

He went on to take complete control over the US Open to take his third title at Flushing Meadows and ended the year regaining the No. 1 ranking.

Novak Djokovic is the stuff of nightmares when he is hot and the bookies are prediciting a survival horror game for his rivals, they make him the $2.37 favourite to win the 2019 Australian Open.

Rafael Nadal follows in the 2019 Australian Open betting odds. The Spaniard is chasing his 18th Grand Slam title and after ankle surgery at the start of November he is confident he can bludgeon his way to another title.

If you haven’t heard, Nadal had a short season in 2018 playing only nine tournaments due to injury problems. He did however comfortably navigate his way to five titles including a record extending 11th title at the French Open.

Nadal is currently playing the Mubadala World Tennis Championships at the International Tennis Centre in Abu Dhabi and is hoping to be ready for Melbourne at 100 per cent.

The world number two is the $5.5 second favourite at most Australian betting companies to win the Australian Open for the second time in his career.

The passion for the game still runs through Roger Federers veins. The 37-year-old who enjoyed his 20th major success in Melbourne in 2018 begins in 2019 with the Hopman Cup in Perth.

Reported to be feeling excited and motivated for this season, don’t be surprised to see his astonishing achievements continue but with the likes of Djokovic and Nadal apparantly on the mend the defending champion may need a bit of luck and the draw to fall his way.

The bookmakers have the six time Australian Open winner on the third line of the betting in 2019 at $6.

Outside the very familiar top three, we can expect decent showings from 2018 Tour Finals champion Alexander Zverev at $10.5 and former world number one Andy Murray at $13 who was far short of his best tennis in 2018, deciding to end the season early to prepare for an outstanding campaign in 2019.
