Betting opens on Tony Abbott to not contest Warringah

The squabble to remove Tony Abbott from his seat of Warringah is heating up which has prompted suggestions that he will not contest the seat.

And as the pressure mounts on the former Prime Minister Sportsbet have moved to shorten the odds on him stepping aside to $5.

Asked about the controversy spokesman Sportsbet said: Abbott is hugely popular in Warringah so he’s very likely to win once more, but if pressure continues to grow to depart, stepping aside can’t be ruled out.

Despite insisting he’s not going anywhere the anti-Tony Abbott forces clearly want him out and should he part ways with the Liberal party he’s $31 to stand as an Independent and $51 to win as one at Sportsbet.com.au.

Elsewhere, Sportsbet are also taking bets on Malcolm Turnbull $8.00 to quit the Liberals, $14 to be dumped by them, $101 to run in Warringah and $151 to snatch the seat.
