Australian Online Bookmakers

There are no shortage of bookmakers to choose from in Australia, but that doesn't mean they are all great. Some we don't particularly reccommend, but you won't see them appear on this site.

Each bookie has it's strengths and weaknesses, which we try to outline as clearly as possible on this website. We've been working with all of these companies for many years, and have tons of experience betting online ourselves, so our opinions should help you to make an informed decision.

  • Our top bookie, Sportsbet have been around since 1993. They are now owned by Paddy Power Betfair and are based in Darwin, NT.

Sportsbet really knows what the punter wants, and this comes across in the design and layout of both the website and mobile app.

The minimum online bet is just $0.01 and minimum deposit is $5.

Sportsbet really caters to the regular punter as much as your ten cent quaddie guy. Try them out, you won't be disappointed!

  • As a fairly new name on the scene compared to others, BetEasy definitely deserves a mention.

The brand came about after a takeover of the former brand Betezy, which then became BetEasy before Crown Resorts stepped in and brought their name.

We love their frequent promotions, low minimum wager amount and slick, intuitive betting interface.

That's not all though, as BetEasy also offer access to their unique rewards product allowing you to collect points as you bet.

  • Unibet boast over 11 million customers the world over, having launched way back in 1999.

After moving into the Australian market in 2012 when taking over the well known Betchoice name, Unibet are now a well regarded brand on these shores.

With a unique website and great live betting selection, we highly recommend taking a look at Unibet, even if you're not familiar with the name.

With a low 10c online bet amount, multiple TV streams and more, Unibet is a five star choice.

  • As one of the World's leaders in sports betting, Bet365 really deserves their place on our best bookies list.

One of the best aspects of the service is the betting interface, which is one of a kind in it's lack of refresh.

You can get bets on in seconds without a lot of the fuss on some other sites. Bet365 has invested millions in the technology behind their website.

There is also a frankly incredible selection of betting options, particularly if you're fond of a bet on soccer and other European markets.

Choosing the right bookmaker

There are plenty of decisions to make if you're opening a betting account for the first time. Which bookie should you choose? What makes one bookie better than the other?

Deposit Options

How you're going to deposit money into your account is one of the considerations you should make. BetEasy for example will accept deposits with BPay and POLi, which is rare. Some bookmakers also take payments from PayPal.

All the major Australian bookmakers offer deposit and withdrawal options with credit and debit cards. Remember, if you're using a credit card to deposit, you should always keep up your payments to avoid interest charges.

Mobile Betting

If you're someone who bets a lot on the move, you're going to want to choose a bookmaker with a good mobile app.

BetEasy New Mobile App

For us, BetEasy's app takes this accolade. With live racing streams from Sky1 and Sky2, their great multi express feature, and a generally exceptional design, it's hard to beat.

Live Streams

Once you've got your bet on, it's always exciting to watch it in play live. That's not always possible on TV, so most bookmakers offer some kind of live streaming service for sports and racing.

If racing is your thing, head over to BetEasy, where Sky Racing is offered completely free - giving you access to every thoroughbred, greyhound and harness race in the country.

For sports fans, we highly recommend Unibet TV, with it's access to NBA basketball, grand slam tennis, major European soccer leagues and more. All in all there are 30,000+ events live each year on this service.

Betting on an Exchange

There's one more thing to consider too, before opening your account. You may want to check out Betfair's betting exchange.

We have a whole tutorial section about exchange betting, but to put it simply, it offers you better odds by cutting out the middle-man. There is no bookmaker in play at Betfair - punters just place bets against each other!

Betfair Exchange Plus

Using an exchange might seem daunting when you first see it, but it's incredibly simple. All the prices are shown as they would be on a normal bookmaker site, with the addition of the lay column.

This is another aspect you can take advantage of with Betfair - betting against an outcome. If you don't like Geelong to finish in the top 8, then lay it and you'll be paid out if they miss the finals!
