Ladbrokes Long History

Ladbrokes LogoLadbrokes' history in Australia dates back to late 2013, when they made the move to these shores from the UK. The company however, dates all the way back to 1886 in London, England.

Ladbrokes massive expansion came in the late 60s, when they expanded from under 50 shops to over 1,000 in just six years.

The company has a presence all over the World, including but not limited to the UK, Ireland, Spain and Australia. With 2,800 brick and mortar betting shop locations in Europe, this is a mammoth name in sports betting.

Ladbrokes Betting Shop

Today the Ladbrokes Coral brand encompases sports betting, financial betting, poker, casino and bingo, with turnover well in excess of $3bn worldwide (2016 figures).

To enter the Australian market in 2013, Ladbrokes purchased Bookmaker.com.au, a bookie that was based in Brisbane and had only been running for just over a year. These sites now operate using the same odds and markets.

The Ladbrokes Website

Where to start with the Ladbrokes Australia site? It's awesome. Ladbrokes has brought their knowledge of the industry to Australia and provided punters with a dream of a betting experience.

Everything is where it should be, the graphics are gorgeous and responsive, and it generally makes placing bets a pleasurable experience. Read on for a more detailed look.

Sports Betting

Graphics are used perfectly on the Ladbrokes site. Not too much, but just enough to let you know where what you're looking for is. Sports are listed down the left, with any sports that aren't currently active greyed out; very handy.

Ladbrokes Sports BettingLadbrokes Sports BettingOn the front page you're presented with the upcoming events in both Australian and International sports. Below that you'll see events on TV, featured events and more. It's likely you'll find the event you want to bet on straight from the home page.

Once you're on the market you want to bet on, everything is displayed simply. If it's a game involving handicaps, all of this will be shown on one line with totals and margins, which we love.

Below that you'll see the additional markets, of which Ladbrokes has tons. They all have shortcuts in the form of buttons (margin markets, points markets, handicap markets etc).

Ladbrokes Promotional Market

Often you'll also see a "promotional market" atop an event, which will be a market with better odds (and limited maximum stake) involving a couple of things that need to happen. These are sometimes great little markets to add some interest to a match.

After you have all your selections, the bet slip slides in from the right giving you very clear options with multi bets and estimated returns.

All in all the sports betting experience at Ladbrokes is intuitive and simple.

Unique Product

Player Bets

We're in love with the unique player bets feature that Ladbrokes have pioneered!

If you've ever found yourself thinking, Gary Ablett has to get more disposals than Dangerfield today, or that Ablett surely gets 40 touches - but couldn't find the right proposition bet...then your wait is over.

Ladbrokes have made it so easy it's silly to make your own player prop bets. They are available for NBA, MLB, AFL and even soccer matches. Stats like tackles, assists, cards, shots in soccer, and rebounds, 3-pointers in basketball can be added to make your own bet.

This makes for some really interesting little side bets!

Betting on Racing

Ladbrokes brings their expertise for excellent web design to their form guide. Whilst being of the nicer racing products to look at, it's also very functional.

Ladbrokes Form GuideYou'll find all the information you need related to the race at the top, including current weather conditions and a full run down of the race in the race comments section. Fluctuations are clearly displayed with colour coding, and Best Tote or SP+20% is very clearly labelled in red.

Clicking on a runner will show extra details such as win and place percentage, record at the distance, course, track condition and plenty more. If you're looking for more detailed information, Ladbrokes also has a pop-out form guide containing detailed information for the last twenty runs of each horse in the race. This is more than most form guides offer.

Placing of exotic bets is made very simple with the tabs above the form guide, and placing these bets is simple with the bet slip doing all the flexi calculations.

Ladbrokes also offers plenty of future big race odds. Teir section for featured races contains tons of markets going months into the future for win or each way bets.

Unique Product

Favourite vs Field

Ladbrokes offer a great little racing product for those punters who love to bet the favourite.

Scroll to the bottom of a race card and you'll see favourite vs field options. You can either bet the favourite to win the race, or you can essentially lay the favourite by taking the rest of the field.

These bets can even be added to multis, so if you don't like favourites on a certain day you can really rack up the profits!

Mobile App

The Ladbrokes mobile betting app works a treat for betting on the go. It packs all the features of the online website into a small package, making placing your bets at the track a simple process.

Live Betting

Ladbrokes Live Betting

Clicking the "Live Betting" option from Ladbrokes' top navigation menu will take you to their live betting area where you can place bets in-running.

We like the fact that Ladbrokes have designed this area of the site in a simlar way to the rest of their website. If an event is live on TV, the channel is clearly displayed with the market. Odds change in real time as you watch without needing to refresh, and odds flash red or green in accordance with shortening and lengthening prices.

For the bigger events, tons of markets are offered in-running. For example major soccer games have 120+ in-play markets, which is a market leading number. It's great to be able to bet on goalscorers etc during live play.

What We Like

Click on any of the live betting odds and you'll be presented with a popup. What differentiates Ladbrokes is that they will call you to place your bet. Your number will appear and you simply have to confirm.

They will then call you to place your bet, just confirm the code displayed and that's it!

Pick Your Own Odds

An innovation by Ladbrokes, pick your own odds is a fantastic product that essentially allows you to increase your payout on racing bets.

Ladbrokes Pick Your OddsLadbrokes Pick Your OddsHave you ever fancied a horse so strongly that you want to back it to win by more than a couple of lengths?

Well, now you can actually do that. Ladbrokes will allow you to increase your dividend as you increase the margin of victory. As you add to the margin of victory, you might be surprised by how much the payout increases!

In the example screenshot you can see that the runner's original odds were $5, but increasing the margin of vitory to just 1 length makes those odds a massive $9.50!

This can be a really good bet on soft ground when horses get tired and the margins can really blow out. Have a go!
