Djokovic the odds on favourite at US Open

Incredibly, Novak Djokovic has only dropped two sets in the 2018 US Open so far and ahead of the semi finals is now the odds on favourite to win his third title here.

Priced at $1.91 at Sportsbet the Serb has undoubtedly had an easy ride into the semis beating Marton Fucsovics, Tennys Sandgren, Richard Gasquet, Joao Sousa and John Millman but the semi final provides a more experienced operator with 2014 US Open finalist Kei Nishikori fighting for a spot in the final.

It’s difficult to predict how Nishikori will fare, the Japanese player did well to to topple Marin Cilic in his five set quarterfinal win which will give him some hope but as the odds suggest it’s simply inconceivable he will beat Djokovic at this level. For that reason Djokovic starts the match as a $1.17 favourite, with Nishikori the $5.40 outsider in the semi and $13 to win the US Open.

Is there any way Rafael Nadal can recover from a number of long tough matches to knock out former champion Juan Martin Del Potro in the second semi final?

It was clear for all to see that Nadal was frazzled and most vulnerable against Dominic Thiem in a fifth set tiebreaker so we are going against the grain here and siding with Del Potro who is playing excellent tennis having dropped only one set on his way to a second successive US Open semi final.

For their semi final match Nadal is the favourite at $1.64, with Del Potro a $2.31 shot. Nadal is $3.40 to win the US Open, with Del Potro priced at $5.50.
