No worries for Winx in recent barrier trial

No worries for Winx after a barrier trial at Rosehill on Tuesday although it's likey the superstar mare will resume in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes on February 16th and not the $5 million All-Star Mile at Flemington on March 16th.

“If anything she looks better than ever when we’ve had her at the same stage,’’ Waller told the press. “We won’t say when the end is, it’ll be one race at a time, more so now ever before.’’

Despite missing the start in the 900m trial which was won by stablemate Endless Drama jockey Hugh Bowman was pleased with the gallop.

“Obviously, we saw she missed the start, as she’s had a habit of doing previously but she’s been really good the last couple of preps,’’ Bowman said.

“So because she did that I didn’t want to rush her into her gear but she took a little while to tack onto the field and her best work was certainly as she went past the winning post and beyond.

“Her action was great, her mannerisms if anything, probably more relaxed than usual, which she’s shown signs of in her gallops leading into her first trial.”

Nominations for the All Star Mile are now closed with trainer Chris Waller putting forward  The Autumn Sun, D’Argento, Shillelagh, Unforgotten, Ancient Spirit, Tom Melbourne, and Kaonic to represent the stable.
