Plenty of appeal in Expressway Stakes

Only six runners for the 2019 Expressway Stakes where Alizee who made a winning return in the Christmas Classic has opened as favourite but there's plenty of appeal elsewhere with the likes of Hartnell, Trapeze Artist and Le Romain in with a shout.

HartnellTrapeze Artist won this race last year then lost his way a little last campaign but was far from disgraced behind Redzel in The Everest. Should Gerald Ryan have him spot on he could prove far too classy and as such looks worth siding with at $4 compared to the $1.85 available for Alizee.

Admittedly, Le Romain does his best over 1400 metres but it's hard not to be impressed by his first-up wins and by the manner in which he goes about his business. Looks a very winnable race for such a class horse but his price of $4 is under the odds for us, you may have other ideas!

The fact that Hartnell has never contested a race over 1200 metres makes us nervous but he is usually a major player first up, albeit over 1400 metres. You can go around in circles trying to work out if he will be slick enough to beat the likes of Alizee and Trapeze Artist but the $12 on offer for a horse of such quality makes us confident of his chances...but that’s not guaranteed.
