Rosehill gearing up for new Golden Eagle

November 2nd 2019 will mark the beginning of a new era at Rosehill Gardens racecourse in Sydney with the inaugural running of a brand new race, the Golden Eagle.

Golden Eagle RosehillOffering a prize money pot of $7.5 million and run over 1500 metres the set weights race, solely for four year old horses will be the third richest race on turf after The Everest at Randwick and the Prix De l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.

The winner of the Golden Eagle will pick up a cool $4.1 million. Connections of each runner will nominate a charity that has been accredited with Racing NSW and that charity will receive 10% of prizemoney won by their horse. 

It is not yet clear where funding for the race will come from.

To add to the excitement, Racing NSW also announced that the Golden Eagle race will form the third leg of a Golden Slam offering a $5 million bonus to connections of any horse that wins the Golden Slipper for two-year-olds, Golden Rose for three-year-olds and the Golden Eagle for four year olds.

“Racing is competitive and we need to expand our carnival,” Racing NSW chairman Russell Balding said.
