Whispering Brook returns to Simon Miller for Orr Stakes

As part of the exodus from Weir stables, quality mare Whispering Brook has returned to WA trainer Simon Miller for a tilt at the Group 1 C F Orr Stakes on Saturday.

Simon MillerWith just a couple of races left in her career, Miller who trained Whispering Brook to win the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate and third to Global Glamour in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in 2016 is hoping for a fairytale ending before she goes to the brood mare sale.

"I suppose it will be nice to finish her career off training her," Miller said. "Most people would be disappointed receiving a horse in those circumstances but I bought her as a weanling and she has done the stable proud over here.

"She probably has only two or maybe three runs left and she'll be sold through a broodmare sale so it would be nice to finish off as a Group 1 winner."

Whispering Brook's big winning run in the Group 2 Australia Stakes last week under the care of Weir did not go unnoticed by her original trainer.

"I saw her two weeks ago so I know how good she looks. When I campaigned her in Melbourne, she was a lot lighter than that and I nearly aborted Melbourne that year because her weight wasn't right," Miller said.

"I looked at her the other day and she's just a beast of an animal now. She's clearly got a lot more weight on her and she looks fantastic and it reflects in the way she's going. I know where she's at."

Whispering Brook is $6.50 to win the Group 1 C F Orr Stakes at online bookmaker Bet365 with Kementari installed as the $3.40 favourite and Land Of Plenty at $5.50.
