Will Victory have it oh so easy in the Melbourne Derby?

Many punters are subscribing to the theory that defending A-League champions Melbourne Victory will have it oh so easy in their season opener against Melbourne City on Saturday.

Online bookmaker Sportsbet report they hold five-times more money for Victory the $2.30 favourites to be on top come the final whistle ahead of City at $2.88. A draw is paying $3.60.

When asked about the betting spokesman Sportsbet said: "The Melbourne Derby is always a hard fought match with pride on the line. The bulk of money is for Victory, but City has strengthened in the off-season, so it will be a close encounter"

In other match betting news, Victory's superstar import Keisuke Honda is set for his A-League derby debut and is proving popular to deliver the first goal of the match at $8. Sure enough, City's Bruno Fornaroli is the $4.50 favourite in the first goalscorer market ahead of Victory's Kenny Athiu a $5.50 chance.

Sydney FC are the title favourites at $4.50, ahead of Victory $5.00 and City $6.00. All prices at online bookmaker Sportsbet.
