Winx in the picture for the new All Star Mile

Champion equine Winx is in the picture for the new All-Star Mile to be run over 1600 metres in Melbourne on March 16th next year for which she has opened as the $1.80 favourite.

With a purse of $5 million the weight-for-age All Star Mile will become the world’s richest mile race, and in a clever idea to get people involved 10 of the 14 runners will be selected through voting by racing fans.

Winx is currently spelling but has quickly been accepted on the wish list for the race although her part-owner Peter Tighe said that the decision would be left to trainer Chris Waller.

The Autumn Sun may also get the green light and has been installed as the second favourite at $7 with Amphritite and Hong Kong superstar Beauty Generation both on the third line of the betting an $11 chance.

Hoping that everyone votes for their horse, betting company Sportsbet.com.au have given the punters’ racehorse, Four Beers Please, a price of $1001 that she will  break her maiden with a win against the stars.

How the All Star Mile Works

  • Owners and trainers are invited to nominate their horse by January 2019
  • Racing fans vote to select the runners
  • The 10 horses with the highest number of votes will contest the race
  • In March 4 wildcard horses will be selected
  • By 12th March the final field and barrier draw will be decided
